Jane's Background

Jane Neumiller-Bustad has almost 20 years of experience in marketing, communications, training and development, and social media.

She can be reached at 612-730-4322, or jane -at- creativemindconsulting.com.

After graduating from the University of Illinois and spending four years in Air Force ROTC, Jane entered the Air Force as an Intelligence Officer. She spent her first tour of duty in Anchorage, AK supervising a 40-person intelligence collection team, and had her first taste of a structured training and development environment when she managed the training of her fellow junior officers.

After being assigned to the San Antonio, TX area, Jane worked as an internal Air Force consultant, specializing in quality improvement, team building, train the trainer, leadership development, and group facilitation. She and three other internal consultants were responsible for designing, developing, training and implementing a quality improvement class for over 17,000 military members and civilian employees in under one year. Other responsibilities included developing and implementing a variety of train-the trainer-development, metrics and quality measurement, team building and leadership development classes.

Life after the military

After leaving the Air Force, Jane started a quality improvement and organizational development training company, working with some of the leading educational and non-profit organizations in San Antonio. She and her family moved to St. Paul, MN in 1997 and has held positions in organizational development, training development, marketing and social media since that time.
Working as both an internal employee and external consultant, Jane's experience includes Fortune 50 companies, small- to-medium sized businesses, and non-profit organizations.

She was responsible for the design, development and implementation of an innovative web-based training project that trained employees of over 60 state licensing boards in online applicant management. By using the client's web tools in an innovative new way, Jane was able to leverage this technology and create an online marketing and assessment site.

Developing marketing expertise

Jane's marketing and social media experience started in 2005, working for her family's very successful real estate business. She provided marketing strategy, collateral development, direct mail, website development, and advertising coordination for the entire team. Her interest in the brand new world of social media led to the development of the second real estate blog in the Twin Cities. Within one month of starting, her team was on the first page of Google.

Combining marketing with training led to a role with the leading real estate training company in the state. Sharing that company's customer service philosophy with other organizations through customer service training, Jane developed an innovative training simulation adopted by a state-wide displaced worker training and development consortium.

She launched Creative Mind Consulting in 2009 to combine her growing expertise in marketing and social mediabring, with her teaching and training background.

Serving the community

Jane's experience and 15 year commitment to the San Antonio and Twin Cities chapters of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) professional association led to her selection as the Director of Interactive Communications in 2008. She's been responsible for developing and executing the communications and social media strategy for the second-largest chapter in the country. In addition, she's been the head of marketing and communications for the chapter's annual regional conference for the past two years.

She also has participated in numerous church related projects.

People think of Jane for her creativity, strategic mindset, strong idea generation ability, creation of innovative partnerships, and her excellent group facilitation and platform speaking skills.

Jane and her family are passionate hockey fans, both in cheering for, and in playing the game itself. Jane also enjoys road trips and jewelry making in her free time (which is limited with a teenager in the house).
